Through my 26 years of birth work, I have continually found myself drawn to the emotional and supportive side of birth work- walking alongside families, creating space for calm, advocacy, encouragement, and presence. Being able to provide doula support while documenting this unique and powerful time in your life helps to honor and hold space for your birth experience, while capturing the strength, love, and connection you’ll always want to remember.
The things that drew me into birth in the first place as a labor and delivery nurse for 19 years were the deep belief that each and every family deserves a birth experience that honors their choices and protects this powerfully transformative time in life. Our birth stories stay with us for years to come, and how we experience birth can be deeply empowering if properly supported. This is the same draw that continues my birth work now, with 8 years as a birth photographer and filmmaker, and now as a certified doula.
My role as your doula is to provide support rooted in trust and presence. Support that can adapt as your birth unfolds. While I am able to work seamlessly with your birth team, I am there for you, whether that support is physical, emotional, or informative.
What is the role of a doula?
A doula does not replace or take the place of your provider or partner; rather, a doula complements your birth team while providing:
We will, hands down, invest in Lisa's work for all of our children's birth and family photography. Thank you, Lisa. The gift you gave us is priceless.
She is the best at what she does, and the best photographer I have worked with. I am so glad to have her as my birth photographer and as a friend!
SHEEVA PANGAN
Her attention to detail and emotion is absolute perfection and I’m forever grateful for her!
NICOLE BARKER
During our prenatal visits, we will talk about your expectations, wishes, and priorities, helping you to create a plan that honors your unique needs.
Although my hands-on physical and emotional support is focused on you and your wishes and needs, I am also there for your partner to ensure they are supported as well, allowing them to step back when needed and encouraging them in ways that best support you!
I support all types of birth from home, birth center, hospital, medicated, cesarean, high-risk, VBAC, and beyond. My role is to ensure you feel supported and empowered in your choices, no matter what they look like.
Having supported births in many forms and settings over the years, I have learned that no two births are alike and things can change quickly. My support remains committed and fluid, no matter the direction your birth takes, there by your side to help you navigate and process those changes.
Though I am there as your doula to provide both emotional and physical support, there are moments when hands-on support is not needed and I’m able to step back and capture moments and details that make up your unique birth story; the support from your parter and family, the sounds and ambiance of your birth space, interactions with your birth team, and most importantly, the strength you hold within yourself, and the way you looked at your baby for the first time. I’m always watching for these emotive storytelling moments and for the right opportunities to document them while holding and honoring your space and story.
Lisa is a great addition to any birth team! And she is definitely a part of the birth team, much more than just a photographer. Her experience means she understands the space, the energy, the vibe of the laboring mother. It felt like having an extra doula in the room! Lisa will do all our family photography needs as long as we can do it!!
